NanoBioMatters Industries, a Spanish technology firm, has commercialized a nanotech-based additive that company officials claim can extend the shelf life of packaged foods.
The new product — NanoBioTer — can enhance barrier properties while having minimal impact on processing, optical performance and cost, officials with the Valencia, Spain-based firm said.
A second product — NanoBioTer Plus — acts as a natural antimicrobial to prevent growth of bacteria, mold and fungus on protected surfaces, officials added.
NanoBioMatters operates a 5.5 million pound-capacity plant in Valencia and is completing a second facility there with annual capacity of almost 9 million pounds. The firm opened a U.S. office in Hamilton, Mass., last year.
